Vermiculite for Professional Use

Vermiculite is permanent, clean, odorless, non-toxic, sterile, and pH neutral. It will not deteriorate, turn moldy, or rot. It is typically mixed with soil, peat, composted pine bark, fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides; it also promotes faster root growth and quick anchorage to young roots. Other applications where vermiculite can commonly be found is brake linings, fireproof cements, vinyl liner pool base cements, cushioning and adsorbent in hazardous packaging, battery shipments, environmental cleanup, insulation, and many other things commonly used in manufacturing and construction.

Horticulture:

Vermiculite is a natural ‘wicking’ mineral. The vermiculite granules attract and hold ammonium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium needed for the growing plants. Additionally, the vermiculite/peat mixture provides excellent aeration and retention of plant food and moisture. The growing plants take what they need (food, air, water, minerals) when they need it from the vermiculite granules, thus requiring less maintenance for the grower and healthier plants with higher yields.

Because the vermiculite granules can soak up to over three times its original volume in water, it can be a very useful component in a passive hydroponics system that does not utilize pumps or other devices to force the nutrient solution to flow. Additionally, it is perfect for seed germination and cutting propagation.

Construction:

Vermiculite is fireproof, insulating, lightweight, and absorbent; this makes it sought after for lightweight cements, fireproof insulations, and cements for pizza and bread ovens. Vermiculite has also been known to be used as a major ingredient in fireproof coatings in the commercial building market and the mining industry.

Industrial:

Once again, vermiculite attributes lead it to be a major ingredient used in steel mills for high temperature cements, ladle toppings, insulation, environmental cleanups, and hazardous packaging. Being lightweight and absorbing, it’s the perfect option for shipping chemicals, liquids, and fragile breakable items through the mail. While it cushions, it’s ready to adsorb any broken bottles that may leak or get abused during transit.

Sold by:

  • Many vermiculite distributors nationwide -  contact us for more information

Available Sizes:

  • 4 cu. ft. bags (plastic or paper bags available)
  • 60 cu. ft.
  • 70 cu. ft. - disposable

Available Grades:

*Due to the limited manufacturing alterations and raw material sources, vermiculite is not as customizable as perlite. All the grades are used in all applications, such as horticulture, construction and industrial. Customizing density and size is very limited. Coarser varieties are sourced internationally, and each mine or source has attributes specific to their local geology that can not be altered or changed from the mines themselves. Domestic mines (USA) are limited in size and availability. There are no mines in the USA that have larger fracture lines to produce a particle larger than our medium grade (D3). PVP works with our mining partners and The Vermiculite Association to ensure pure, high quality vermiculite is always available with as little changes as possible.
